Sometimes your real life starts at the edge of everything falling apart.

They thought life would slow down after forty—until love, lies, and second chances turned everything upside down. Zoe, Tiffany, Harmony, and Morticia are four fierce, flawed, and funny friends navigating heartbreak, reinvention, and the chaos of midlife with wine, wit, and their weekly girls' nights to keep them grounded. From unexpected pregnancies and courtroom mix-ups to internet aliases and dangerously attractive men, each woman must confront her past to claim the future she deserves. With resilience, resourcefulness, rebellion, and a touch of reclusion, they discover that it's never too late to rewrite your story. Because life after forty isn’t over—it’s just getting interesting.

Look Inside Ch. 1

Resilient

“I must be having a mental breakdown. Why else would I have swiped right?” I said into my cell phone.

I had been married for twenty years, divorced two. I had never done anything quite so adventurous. I wasn’t sure I could go through with tonight.

“Zoe, you don’t have to do this,” one of my best friends, Tiffany, said from the other end of the line. “You can just leave. Men do it all the time.”

“No. I need this.” I took a deep breath. “The mayor will never choose me as the party planner for the Labor Day bash over Bitsy if I don’t loosen up.” I’d worked my way into such a frenzy I’d barely tasted the lobster at the quaint little seafood restaurant on the shores of Cape Cod.

My hand rested on the doorknob to my room at Hilda’s Bed and Breakfast, and I frowned. The last time I’d visited the Cape was when Max had surprised me on our fifteenth wedding anniversary. I’d ordered lobster then, too, and vividly remembered Max’s finger reaching out to swipe a drop of butter from my lip.

My frown turned to an outright scowl. Now that I knew what a deadbeat husband and father he had turned out to be, the lobster sat in my stomach like a lump of angry crustacean trying to claw its way out. I couldn’t blame it, really. It was a shame to eat lobster and not enjoy it.

Max had ruined everything.
