Come out to the vineyard for a lovely glass of wine, a touch of romance ... and a murder mystery or two.
"Light, pleasant case of murder." ~ KIRKUS REVIEWS
Outside the small town of Delphine, Texas, there's always a good glass of wine to be had at the Beckett Family's River Bend Winery and Vineyard. A family affair, the lovely 1200-acre vineyard sits along the Colorado River and every family member has a hand in its management. Elise Beckett, horticulturist and middle Beckett child, has a special flair for viniculture ... and sleuthing it seems, much to Sheriff's Deputy Jackson Landry's frustration, especially since she can't seem to help herself when it comes to his cases. Growing up with the Beckett siblings, Elise's older brother, Ross, is his best friend, but Jackson has always had a thing for Elise. However, she constantly works his very last nerve when she insists on sticking her pretty little nose into his investigations, often putting herself in the line of fire. Unfortunately, his nerves aren't the only impulses Elise seems to work and therein lies the rub.

Champagne Toast, Murder Chaser
Elise Beckett stepped through one of the elegant sets of French doors and out onto the wide wraparound veranda on the south side of Lodge Merlot— the event center for River Bend Winery and Vineyard— and into the warmth of a glorious April evening. Behind her, the building was lit up, decked out in its finery, and filled with humming conversation and flowing libations. She placed her glass of champagne on the railing and gazed out at the surrounding land with its row upon row of grapevines, now just silhouettes under the cover of twilight.
The 1,200 acres of fertile farmland that the vineyard now occupied had been in Elise’s family for over a century, though the vineyard itself was only about 40 years old. With her degree in horticulture, for more than a decade of that time she’d helped to expand and shape the vineyard, caring for the original vines while adding the drought and disease-resistant hybrids which now flourished here.
Pride swelled in her chest and emotion swamped her. Like her father before her— God rest his soul— she’d always felt a keen connection to the land and the river beyond. The vineyard sat along the banks of the Colorado that flowed through Delphine, Texas. The river then meandered lazily from there through the county seat of Bastrop followed by Smithville and a myriad of other towns as it flowed southeasterly before emptying into the Gulf of Mexico.
River Bend was a big part of Delphine’s history, and the entire Beckett family was involved in its operation.
