Secrets don’t stay secret…
Carrie Overton’s personal miracle came on the side of a deserted country road sixteen years ago. On her way to her new life, she helped a young woman deliver to a baby boy. But the women vanished, leaving the baby behind, and was not seen again until she was found murdered.
But the dead don’t stay buried…
Sixteen years later, the secret Carrie has kept all this time returns to haunt her. The teenagers of Shadow Falls are being preyed upon, taken one by one, and she can’t help but believe it’s all tangled up with her son’s birth mother and her tragic, violent end.
You should never trust a stranger…
There’s a handsome stranger in town who’s getting too close and asking too many questions. Carrie doesn’t trust him, sensing that he’s keeping secrets of his own. Secrets she’s going to have to uncover if she wants to protect the life she has built and keep her son safe from a killer.
What people are saying…
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “This book is filled with so much suspense, mystery and romance. It’s fast paced and action packed. Very hard to put down and highly recommended.” ~ Reviewer
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Maggie Shayne knows how to keep suspense simmering… Her continuity of characters throughout the series is so compelling, you wonder in the first book which character will be the central figure in the next. She draws you in, and doesn't let you go until the last page. The really neat part is each book in itself is a wonderful story, with a definite ending. Then, you start the next book, and meet old friends from the first one. It's like going to a family reunion, wondering which of the relatives "did it".” ~ Reviewer
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “I like the way this series progressed. The author Maggie brings out one character from the previous books and goes through their life, but also uses a character or two from the previous book. This is the last of the Shadow Falls series and was a great exciting book and most of the characters have a happy ending. Almost feel like your right there with them. Love this author Maggie Shayne.” ~ Reviewer

“Can’t you see that we’ll die if we don’t get the hell out of here?”
“We won’t, Jewel,’’ Lizzie whispered.
“Mordecai would never let anything happen to us. Not to us.’’ Her voice changed to a singsong kind of coo. “No, he wouldn’t. Not to his own baby, would he, Sunshine? No.’’ She sat cuddling her newborn daughter in the rocking chair Mordecai Young, “the reverend,’’ had brought into their quarters.
They no longer had to room in the barracks with the other so-called Young Believers. Mordecai Young had moved his special girls into the spacious attic of the main house, where he could be closer to them.
“Lizzie, you’re being stupid. You’re forgetting the plan.’’ Jewel paced
the length of the large room, growing more and more agitated. “And it was working so damn well.’’
Lizzie looked at her and for a moment Jewel thought she saw the sharp mind and clear eyes of the girl her friend had been six months ago.
“It was,’’ Lizzie said. “We made him believe we loved him, didn’t we? And it worked.’’
It had worked. Mordecai had made them his right hands. They had access to the
house. They ate better. He never hit them anymore.
“But, Jewel, I’m not acting anymore. I really love him.”
“He’s a criminal. Jesus, Lizzie, he takes in runaways and makes us into slaves. He has armed guards and dogs patrolling the compound in case any of us try to leave…
